"Community Explosions - Summer In The City - We're Better Together"
In the spring of 2017 William Shackleford, Sherron Hedgepeth-Sanders and Charles Cheek were having a lunch meeting to discuss ways to build relationships in our neighborhoods and communities with the churches being the catalyst. William told the other two about how his father, a pastor, would without fame or taking credit get the various faith denominations, businesses and neighborhood residents to come together for a "movement to build relationships". So, at that point it was decided that this would be the model and the name Community Explosions was to be the brand. A meeting was held with Hampton police representatives, a Hampton city agency that was working with youth and with pastors from several churches. There was overwhelming acceptance and the Community Explosions started in Hampton in 2017. In 2018, the Community Explosions were held in Hampton, Newport News, York County and Williamsburg.
The Community Explosions take place on a Saturday from 10am to 2pm. It is an activity that promotes continuous relationship building within neighborhoods and communities between businesses and other churches in the geographical area of the hosting church. The first year there were 6 Community Explosions hosted in Hampton. At each of the Community Explosions the churches participating were responsible for networking in their surrounding communities to let residents know about the particular event...and, this is the continuous practice - "We're Better Together". There are informational vendors, bounce house activities for the children, food and other entertainment activity and more for this "movement to build relationships".
If you are interested in setting up as an informational vendor only (no selling of products or services), please submit your information via email to hamptonroadsccdnetwork@gmail.com. If you have any questions, please feel free to call 757-602-9196.
